YES! 2 more Car Less Brit’s! ‘the romantic couple, Arien Reed & Lee Melozzi.
They’re commiting for the rest of the current Car Less Brit Experiment which ends Dec 10. No blogs or anything, just happy biking, walking and busing!
I have seen your web site and thought I’d email you. I moved to Roanoke in Nov. 2004 from a rural Vermont community. I had a car and then the transmission blew as soon as I moved to Roanoke. I had no money to fix the car so I was without a car until late April 2005. I did not have a bike to get around with either.
The challenges I faced were learning the public transit system and trying to find employment on a bus line. I knew no one in the area and lived in the southwest which was in walking distance of downtown. The benefits were I was fit and healthy, walked my dog daily and could shop at the Farmers Market. I also found it difficult to get rides to church and get groceries, I was limited in what I could carry either on the bus or walking.
It is possible to live in Roanoke city limits and have no car but it it limits you as the bus does not run on Sundays or late evenings.
Now I have a car I make an effort to consolidate errands and take Sundays off from driving.
