INTERMODAL LOVE, the event; Car Less Brit september 18 2009
a unique and light hearted film bringing various modes of transport into unison.
thanks to RIDE Solutions and MyScoper for their sponsorship of INTERMODAL LOVE
I never imagined the impact it would have on me. It seemed like a blast at the time just up and ridding myself of the car with no alternative transportation plans. But almost without my consent I am rapidly becoming a pretty motivated critique of personal car ownership culture. It’s amazing how perspective has changed, almost all of what I now think about transportation didn’t cross my mind as a car owner. ‘have no idea what’s ahead.
I am beginning to wonder that if the carlessroanoke party, April 14, in Roanoke, has high attendance then the effect will be that non car transportation issues in Roanoke will be seen to need to be prioritized!

at this site, worldcommute.com, you simply punch in your daily travel miles (it also allows you to backdate entries if you forget to do it on the day of, etc) along with what the travel activity was for and it calculates how much your carbon footprint is lessened through not traveling in a car/burning fuel. Options include walking, biking, running, skating and others.
It also calculates on a large scale, all members together and their total decreased footprint and ranks states and types of transport according to the amount of footprint lessened.
I just started with it and it’s very nice!
Consider The Alternatives
‘here’s a video created by Jeremy Holmes, Program Director of RIDE Solutions.
Jeremy’s the one who contacted me on facebook, when I posted an update that I was thinking about selling my car, asking if I was gonna keep a blog of my experiences. He suggested, about the day after I sold it, that I commit to a year of carlessness! We chatted and came to agreement on a 6 month commitment to being carless!
In this video, Jeremy takes you on a quick tour of the automobile and its impact on the American landscape, environment, and pocketbook. He created this film using footage gleaned from public domain materials at archive.org, wikimedia commons, and video and photos from around the Roanoke Valley.
Jeremy says, “Consider your alternatives at http://www.ridesolutions.org”!
p.s. my posting this video doesn’t mean I agree with it, not that I’m saying that I don’t agree with it but just that posting it doesn’t mean I agree with it…
